Cornwall Croquet ClubSWF Short Croquet Tournament |
Sun 3 Apr 2005 - South West Federation - Short Croquet TournamentThe region’s newest croquet club sent a team of four players to the South West Federation’s season opening tournament at Nailsea, near Bristol. Cornwall Croquet Club is based at Porthpean and this was the club’s first venture into competitive territory. Captain and club coach Ian Wilson, from Truro, prepared the team tactically and all agreed it was a valuable learning experience. Golant’s Tony Jennings, in his first external competition, was the team’s best competitor, posting two singles victories. Paul Schofield, from Helston, and Nigel Grant, from St. Austell, also played. All agreed it was an excellent day and they will be well prepared for the opening of the Club’s summer season on 16th April 2005.
Starting its first full season, Cornwall Croquet Club already has over 30 members and, with a second lawn soon ready at Porthpean (by the golf club driving range), membership is set to expand further this year.
