Sat-Sun Sep 3-4, 2005 - Club Low(er) Bisquers Tournament

Spectators enjoyed the very exciting final games of the Lower Bisquers Tournament held over two days at Porthpean when five of the Cornwall Club's most skilled players contested the Plymouth Cup, this has been donated by their croquet compatriots from the other side of the Tamar.

Tony Backhouse, Nigel Grant, Malcolm Hooper (Tournament Secretary), Tony Jennings and Ian Wilson all had to play each other; by the final 2 games, played simultaneously after lunch on the final day, Ian was ahead, but both Nigel and Tony Backhouse were in with a chance if either of them won their games by a large majority of hoops run.

In fact Tony just scraped a win 26:23 from Malcolm despite being left with one ball only for the last 15 minutes of the game having failed to peg out both balls in one turn.

Nigel won 26:21 against Ian, and again this game was touch and go at the end with most interesting, and indeed, nail biting play for the spectators.

Ian, Nigel and Tony Backhouse having 3 wins each, the hoops run had to be counted up, Ian with 99 was just ahead of Nigel with 92, and so was the overall winner of the Plymouth Cup, which will be presented at the Club's Finals' Day on Sunday 18th September.

Spectators are welcome to this event.
