There was a gathering of the clans of Cornish Croquet on Monday Sep 12, when a team from the Fowey Croquet Club played Cornwall Croquet Club at their home ground at Porthpean.
The two versions of Croquet were played, Association in the morning, followed by Golf in the afternoon. Tony Backhouse, Cornwall Chairman, acted as co-ordinator and referee.
Both teams enjoyed a picnic lunch, and the day ended with a delicious tea provided by the Fowey Club.
The players were: -
Cornwall Club: Paul and Elizabeth Schofield, Ron and Pam George, John and Frances Hindley, Paul and Margaret Lewis, Colin Hadley, Jenny Burrows, David Laity.
Fowey Club: Reg Wapling, Rosemary Bradshaw, David Edwards, Aileen Chitty, Gwen Cussans, Tony Jennings, Stephen and Margaret Read.
The Gala was enhanced by perfect weather and news at teatime of England's great cricketing victory in regaining the Ashes.
