Finals Day Match Report

Sun Sep 18, 2005 - FINALS' DAY AT CROQUET CLUB

The sunshine on Sunday 18th September was perfect for the culmination of the first year of competetive play at our permanent home at Porthpean.

The Knock-out for the Dowding Cup between Tony Jennings & Tony Backhouse was won +4 on time by Tony Jennings in a closely contested game, with Tony B getting one ball to the peg and Tony J at hoops penult and four back.

The Rosemary Bradshaw Bowl for the Ladder competition saw Stephen Read win +10 on time against Nigel Grant.  The Ladder has been hotly contested all summer with a variety of players occupying the top place for varying lengths of time.

Malcolm Hooper, Tournament Secretary, welcomed the spectators at the prize giving ceremony, that incuded trophies won earlier in the summer: -

Wilson Salvers (Doubles) - Nigel Grant and David Edwards,
Read Trophy (High Bisquers) - David Edwards,
Plymouth Cup
(Lower Bisquers) - Ian Wilson.

The balmy evening was perfect for the ensuing party and members enjoyed watching the sunset over their food and drinks.
