Cornwall Croquet
Match report
Cornwall Croquet Club's competitive season began with Sunday's golf croquet league match at Budleigh Salterton. Golf Croquet is a version of the more familiar game of Association Croquet and is distinguished by its tactical simplicity, short games and sociable environment.
Cornwall's team of four - Barry and David Edwards, Tracey Wilschere and captain Nigel Grant - performed with great credit for this first venture into competitive golf croquet. After an uncertain start in the morning, all four players improved in the afternoon's play but eventually the experience of the Budleigh team showed as they won fairly comfortably 14-6.
Showing the way to the more experienced players was Tracey who, just two weeks after starting the Club's coaching course, had the courage to enter the competition and came away delighted with her first singles match win, to add to her doubles win with Grant. Tracey thanked her Club coaches and said "this shows that it's possible for anyone to learn and succeed at this excellent sport". The highlight of the whole day was Tracey's first successful jump shot!
