Cornwall's two croquet clubs celebrated the longest day with an inter-club match, Cornwall versus Fowey, playing on Cornwall's home courts at Porthpean.
The more experienced Cornwall players pulled off a win, 5 : 2, however it was by no means a walkover, with the two captains - Tony Backhouse (Cornwall) and Rosemary Bradshaw (Fowey) having a very close game, Backhouse gaining victory in the last turn of their game.
Cornwall's other wins were : Ian Wilson v Tony Jennings, Tony Backhouse v Stephen Read, Ian Wilson v David Edwards and Paul Schofield v Rosemary Bradshaw.
The Fowey wins were the doubles, Stephen Read and David Edwards v Nigel Grant and Tony Dyson, and Tony Jennings won his singles v Nigel Grant.
Cornwall's Social Secretaries' Jacquie Neville-Webber and Penny Rowe provided a home cooked feast for the ensuing party which was attended by members from all over Cornwall. A fun game of Pirates Croquet followed with many players on the court, the main object being to pinch each others points by fair means or foul !!
Final Score: Cornwall 5, Fowey 2.
