Cornwall's first of this season's Golf-Croquet League matches was played at Porthpean under a cloudy, but rainless, sky against visiting Barnstaple.
After the first eight singles games the scores were tied, but the Cornwall team forged ahead by winning all four of the next singles.
At the end of the 16 singles games the home team had 9½ points to the visiting team's 6½.
Needing only to win one of the four doubles games, the shared points gave the Cornwall team a comfortable win. However, most of the games were close, which made for a very enjoyable match.
The Cornwall Team - Howard Rosevear, Tracey Wilschere, Jenny Burrows, Joyce Wilson & Lynda Everett.
The Barnstaple Team - Margaret Baraclough, Ruby Featherstone, Richard & Shirley Nash, Syd Jones & Barbara Chudleigh.
This match provided Ron George, Cornwall's Golf Croquet Captain with an excellent opportunity to use his newly acquired skills as a referee, having qualified as such at a Croquet Association course and examination at the Lansdown Club, Bath, on 16th April. Well Done Ron!
