Four of Cornwall Croquet Club's most skilled players travelled to East Devon on Tuesday 26th June to play a Federation Level Association match at Budleigh Salterton, winning 5 : 2. The weather was good, as were the lawns and the welcome from the prestigious Budleigh Club, one of the oldest established in the country.
The morning's play comprised - Doubles: Cornwall's Ian Wilson and Nigel Grant winning + 22
with a decisive peg out v Budleigh's Marie Lester and Peter Jones. Singles : Tony Backhouse lost to Jane
Babbage - 12, and Tony Jennings with a very tight win v Michael lester + 1 on time.
The afternoon matches, all Singles : Tony Backhouse(Cornwall Chairman) + 12 v Marie Lester(Budleigh Chairman), Tony Jennings with another tight win to Peter Jones + 2, Ian Wilson losing to Jane Babbage - 19, her second win of the day, with Jane playing another skilful and elegant game, and finally Nigel Grant with a good win + 17 to Michael Lester.
