SWF Golf Croquet League vs Budleigh Salterton

The rain held off for the visit to Porthpean of a strong golf-croquet team from Budleigh Salterton.
With sixteen singles and four doubles matches before them, the home side got off to a good start. At the half-way stage, with every member of the team contributing, Cornwall were ahead by seven points to five, but this was reduced to one point at the end of the afternoon singles.
With the match delicately poised, Budleigh came back strongly to take the first two doubles matches, and to go into the lead for the first time.
The first of the last two doubles ended with a win for Cornwall by 7 to 5 to level the scores,
leaving the final game being fought closely as the time was running out.
At the bell the home side emerged winners by one hoop: the final score of 10 ½ to 9 ½ making the Cornwall Team winners by one point.
Cornwall has now won all of its matches in the South West Federation, Southern Section, and will
play the winners of the Central Section in September.
Final Score: Cornwall 10 ½ Budleigh 9 ½
