For the second weekend running, the Cornwall Croquet Club had some glorious weather for a club tournament. Last week, the New Members' Day, and this week the Golf-Croquet Handicap Singles went ahead without any interruptions. Organized and managed by Ron George, the Tournament was being held for the first time.
There were sixteen participants, playing in four blocks of four, over two days: each match being played to the best of nineteen hoops, or to a time limit of one-and-a-half hours.
There was great competition throughout, with many matches ending with a score difference of one or two hoops.
The eventual Block winners were Elizabeth Schofield, Des Honey, Margaret and Stephen Read, who played the semi-finals in that order.
The final was then played between Elizabeth Schofield and Margaret Read, who got off to a good start before her opponent started to catch up. However, Margaret managed to stay ahead, and ran out the winner by ten hoops to seven.
The trophy was presented, jointly, by Lynda Everett and Joyce Wilson, who had donated it to the club.

The final of the Golf Singles Knockout Tournament was also held on Sunday afternoon, between Des Honey & Paul Schofield.
In two hard fought 13 hoop games Paul Schofield emerged the winner 7-5, 7-5.
