On Saturday & Sunday April 17th & 18th 6 members of the Cornwall Croquet Club went to play in Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club's High Bisquers Tournament (for players with higher handicaps of 16 to 24).
The Tournament is arranged in two parts, first part is a knock out. Those knocked out enter an 'Egyptian' where the number of games won count and if there is a tie the number of hoops decides the winner.
In brilliant sunshine, Jenny Burrows, Barry Edwards, Des Honey, Tony Dyson, Margaret Read and Elizabeth Schofield, started out in the Knock Out Tournament, looking forward to the sport but mostly with little hope of success.
Des Honey was cruelly eliminated in the first round, but went on to win the next four games in the Egyptian and became the winner of the Egyptian.
Jenny Burrows, playing like a champion, won each of her first four games but in the final came up against an immaculate player who never made a mistake while taking each ball round to the peg. Jenny ended as runner up in the Knock Out Tournament.
Well done both.
