Cornwall sent a team of 4 players away to Plymouth to play in the Southwest Federation Association Croquet Federation League( for players with lower handicaps) on Sunday 16th May.
Play started at 10am under dark clouds which threatened rain later.
In the morning 1 double & 2 singles games were played.
Peter Cutting(C) & Richard Griffiths(C) beat Brian Savage(P) & Eddie Schaffert(P) + 6 in the doubles,
Tony Backhouse(C) beat Brian Williams(P) +13,
Stephen Read(C) lost to Brian Stephens(P) -3.
After lunch 4 more singles were played.
Richard Griffiths(C) lost to Brian Williams(P) -19,
Tony Backhouse(C) beat Bob Savage(P) +6,
Peter Cutting(C) lost to Brian Stephens(P) -2,
Stephen Read(C) beat Eddie Schaffert(P) +16.
The match was all square at 3 games all until the last game when Stephen Read beat Eddie Schaffert to win the match for Cornwall.
Final Score: Plymouth 3 Cornwall 4
