Over 25 heats of the Charity One-Ball Championship for the Breast Cancer Campaign are being held at various croquet clubs throughout the country, with a final at Winchester on 12th May 2012.
In 2011 £2678 was raised nationally for the Breast Cancer Campaign by this tournament.
16 players from Cornwall Croquet competed in a Swiss format competition with each player having 6 thirteen point games, on half lawns with a 45 minute time limit (as usual with these games most were completed well within the time limit). The games were handicapped using the commonly used 1/3 of handicap difference method, there being no handicap below 6 competing, and the winner decided by number of wins and who played whom.
The heat was ably and efficiently managed by Des Honey (who also played) who was thanked by all the participants for a most enjoyable day. The weather was dry but quite cool.
The finalists were Jenny Burrows and Elizabeth Schofield with Elizabeth the winner.
This club event raised £90 for the Breast Cancer Campaign. ( http://www.breastcancercampaign.org/ )
