Seven members traveled to Budleigh for Rosevear's third Golf League match of the season, having so far scored one win and one loss. Summer had at last come, with unbroken hot sunshine & little wind.
The first games played were the doubles, where Stephen Read (handicap 3) and Ron George (5) went down on the "golden hoop", 6-7. Pam George (9) and Maggie Dawson (8) were also on the wrong end of a close game, losing 5-6. In the second set of doubles Stephen & Margaret Read (7) were held to a 5-5 draw, and Pam & Ron George went down 6-7 on golden hoop. Very close games with a strong "if only" factor!
In the singles, the pattern remained of generally close games, but with the majority going Budleigh's way. Cornwall needed to do really well in the afternoon to make up the deficit, but could not gain enough wins to prevent Budleigh ending as 14-6 winners.
The consolation lay in good company, an excellent tea, and the realization, after all the recent awful weather, that croquet is sometimes played in glorious conditions.
