In their second Golf Croquet handicap league match, Rosevear were at home to Exeter. Conditions were good, and the lawns reasonably paced, although the mower had not yet been set to the shorter summer cut. Both Clubs fielded teams of 5, meaning not much respite, and the emphasis was on higher handicap players. All Exeter’s team were either 10 or 11, and Rosevear slightly lower being three 10’s, one 9 & one 8.
Exeter’s players put up a good fight, but Rosevear’s team had more experience. This soon showed in the results, with Fiona Russell starting off with a 7-0 win, and other wins for Rosevear following on. The doubles went Rosevear’s way 3 – 1. Although there were some close finishes in the singles, Exeter’s only other wins came from Neville Craven, playing very well off 10, and finishing with a comprehensive 7-1 win in his last single. Congratualtions to Fiona Russell, who, winning all her games, brought her handicap down to 8.
