Cornwall’s Golf Croquet level play league team visited Sidmouth for their first fixture of the season. Conditions were very pleasant and Cornwall were a little surprised to find that Sidmouth’s lawns were not playing as fast as we had found them in the past – probably just as well. We also found that there were significant bends to be had, and some hoops were awkward, tending to be slightly mounded between the wires.
Cornwall brought a team of five, handicaps ranging from 3 to 8. Sidmouth were between 3 & 5. Cornwall almost held their own in the early doubles, with a win and a draw. After this, it became clear that Sidmouth were just too strong for us, particularly our higher handicap players. Cornwall did mange three wins in the later rounds of the singles, but the final result gave a pretty accurate reflection of the day’s play.
Final Score: Sidmouth 15.5 Cornwall 4.5
