In their third match of the Golf Croquet handicap league this season, Rosevear entertained Budleigh Salterton. The conditions were not easy, with strong winds making it awkward to take aim and play a smooth stroke, and the wind affecting the run of the balls. Rosevear started strongly in the doubles, with three wins and a draw. In the singles, Rosevear continue to enjoy success, and by lunchtime the home side were edging towards a winning position.
Most players in each team were middle to high handicaps, but Rosevear fielded two 3 handicap players, who in the current system, have to play as 2’s in handicap games. Their singles results showed that our low handicap players tend to struggle against opponents with a good stack of free turns, managing to salvage only a half point from their three singles. However, Rosevear continued in successful mode, leading to what was in the end a fairly comfortable win.
Teams were: Cornwall Rosevear: David Edwards (2); Stephen Read (2); Dorianne Forsdick (7); Barry Edwards (8); Fiona Russell (8); Tanis Boxall (9); Liz Honey (10); Pam George (10).
Budleigh Salterton: Tom Pyne (6); Ivor Meredith (7); Bridget Andrews (8);
Steve Andrews (8); Peter Quinn (8); Sheena Hemmings (8); Pat Meredith (9); Geraldine O’Boyle (12).
