Tuesday August 22nd The winners of The Southwest Federation of Croquet Clubs South West Division Intermediate League, Cornwall (Team, Tony Jennings (handicap 16), Peter Cutting (12), Des Honey (11), Peter Dexter (16)), welcomed Lym Valley (Team, Richard Cousins(14), Jack Hoare(16), Huw Rees(12), Ken Wilcox(18) ), winners of The South East Division, to play The Intermediate League Semi-final. The Lym Valley Club is situated near Lyme Regis. The weather was mostly sunny with light winds( ideal).
Play commenced with 1 double & 2 singles. Honey v Cousins, hoops came slowly in a close fought game, Honey prevailing in the end 20-15 on time. The other single Dexter v Rees again progressed slowly, Dexter winning 19-8 on time. The double Cutting & Jennings v Hoare & Wilcox was hard fought, Cutting & Jennings winning 15-12 on time.
By lunch time Cornwall were 3--0 up.
The afternoon play was 4 singles. Cutting v Rees game started slowly, but Cutting got his eye in & romped away to win 26-3 with plenty of time to spare. Jennings v Cousins started in a similar way but Jennings form turned good & won 26-6 again with time to spare. The other 2 singles were not going quite so well. Honey v Wilcox was very close run, Honey eventually coming out the winner 17-16 on time. The last single was Dexter v Hoare again hoops did not come easily in the end Dexter managed to get away to win 12-7 when time ran out.
The final will be between Cornwall & the winners of The North v Central Divisions, probably on September 16th away at Nailsea.
