Cornwall Rosevear's team of 6 played their last-but-one match of the season at Nailsea on August 8th, hoping for a good result in what has been a disappointing season. Nailsea's lawns were in good condition, although there is a distinct slope on one, meaning that some shots have to be aimed off to compensate.
Nailsea fielded a team with mainly quite high handicaps – the lowest being 5, the highest 12. Limited availability of players meant that Rosevear's handicaps were mostly lower. The consequence of this was that overall, Nailsea received 46 free turns, but gave away only 4. In the opening doubles, Des & Liz Honey gained two wins, but David & Barry Edwards lost both their matches.
In the 16 singles games, Rosevear were quite unable to match the good play of their opponents, and their supply of free turns, managing one win only, by Barry Edwards.
The result therefore was an overwhelming win for Nailsea.
Final Score: Nailsea 17 Cornwall 3
