Cornwall v Budleigh Salterton
13 May saw Porthpean's golf croquet team host Budleigh Salterton at Cornwall Croquet Club.
Porthpean fielded a full team of eight with handicaps ranging from 11-4 while Budleigh Salterton played seven with handicaps ranging from 10-6.
The day started well for Porthpean with a 7-5 doubles win for Janet Bell and Linda Lang over Pat and Ivor Meredith. Linda met Pat again in the singles and triumphed 5-4 before emerging 7-2 against Sue Pyne. In his debut for Porthpean Martin Hughes enjoyed a 7-4 success over Stephen Andrews followed by a 7-5 defeat of Bridget Andrews. The day continued with Porthpean gaining 7-5 wins over Linda Hicks for both Rhona Foster and Kathryn Smith, a 6-3 victory for Joyce Wilson over Ivor Meredith and a 7-6 win for Kathleen Moorshead over Tom Pyne.
Unfortunately, as the afternoon progressed Porthpean were unable to sustain their winning form and Budleigh Salterton took most of the games although Felicity Owen and Kathleen Moorshead won 7-1 against Pat Meredith and Linda Hicks when the doubles games resumed.
Glorious sunshine had been enjoyed throughout a day that concluded with a 10-10 draw.
Budleigh Salterton thanked Porthpean for their hospitality and provision of a splendid tea and Porthpean wished Budleigh Salterton a safe homeward journey.
