On Sunday, 24th June, sunshine and showers prevailed throughout the B League Match between the only two Cornish Croquet Clubs affiliated to the Croquet Association, the more experienced Cornwall Club winning 5 : 2 versus Fowey.
However, Fowey, in this their inaugural year of competitive events, are in a good position in the League Table, having won their earlier 3 matches, with just one to go, Away at Budleigh Salterton, on 3rd July.
The morning saw Colin Hadley (Cornwall Captain) and debutante Des Honey win the Doubles v Fowey's Margaret Read and Barry Edwards, 8 : 4.
Tony Dyson won decisively to Stephen Read, 14 : 9 (Peg Out), and Peter Cutting won to Rosemary Bradshaw (Fowey Captain) 8 : 5.
After lunch Colin Hadley lost to Margaret Read 8 : 10, Des Honey won to Barry Edwards 12 : 7, Peter Cutting lost to Stephen Read 14 : 6 (Peg out), and Tony Dyson won to Rosemary Bradshaw 12 : 11.
The march was refereed by Tony Backhouse, Cornwall Chairman and Handicapper, who awarded a handicap change of 2 steps to Tony Dyson after the match.
